August 2015 - The relationship that a CIO has with his or her board of directors in an organization is a crucial one. Yet it’s often the case that the communications between the CIO and the board is not as clear and effective as it could and should be.
That communications relationship is often critical to the ultimate success of the CIO and the IT division. Without a common language between the CIO and the board, it is much more problematic to secure approvals and support for IT strategic plans, funding for annual budgets and other projects, and the introduction of new technology.
Having an effective communications relationship with the board of directors is a key capability of any executive. For CIOs and other IT leaders, it’s more than a key capability, it’s essential.
